Flying with China Southern Airlines

China Southern Airlines is the world's 6th largest airline measured by passengers carried, and Asia's largest airline in terms of fleet size and passengers carried. With headquarters in Guangzhou, China, China Southern Airlines operates a flight network of 193 international destinations using a fleet of more than 400 aircraft. Using the slogan “Fly Your Dreams”, China Southern Airlines carried 86.5 million domestic and international passengers with an average load factor of 81% in 2012. In addition to domestic flights and flights to other countries in Asia, the airline offers services to Europe, North America, The Middle East and Australia. A member of SkyTeam, China Southern Airlines was founded in 1988 and has since merged with a number of domestic airlines, becoming one of China's "Big Three" airlines alongside Air China and China Eastern Airlines.

Online check-in

China Southern Airlines online check-in service is only available for international and regional routes departing from Guangzhou.
Online check-in is available up to 48 hours before the flight departure and is available up until an hour before take-off.
Passengers using the online check-in service are able to select their seat for the flight.
When checking in online, passengers must have a valid adult e-ticket and provide identity information that was issued when the ticket was reserved. Passengers with paper tickets cannot check-in online.
Many airports within the China Southern Airlines network operate airport check-in terminals, which are open two hours before the flight departure and charge additional check-in fees.

Cabin luggage allowance

Passengers of China Southern Airlines may carry 1 piece of cabin luggage with dimensions no greater than 115cm.
The maximum weight of cabin luggage is 5kg.
Any item which exceeds the cabin luggage weight, quantity or size limit as stipulated by the airline and ticket type will treated as checked baggage and consequently subject to a fee.
All liquids, gels and aerosols to be carried on board by passengers must be stored in containers with a maximum capacity of 100ml. Containers with a capacity exceeding 100ml must be placed in checked baggage and are not allowed in the cabin.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers of international flights are entitled to 1 piece of checked luggage with dimensions no larger than 158cm (115cm for infants younger than 2 years). For domestic flights, the size limit is 40cm x 60cm x 100cm.
The maximum weight for baggage being stored in the hold on international flights is 32kg (10kg for infants younger than 2 years). For domestic flights, the weight limit is 50kg.
1 piece of luggage may be checked in by each passenger for free. Additional baggage allowance can be purchased from the airline.
Sports equipment may be checked in provided they meet the size and weight limitations defined by China Southern Airlines.
