Air France-KLM is the main airline in France and the Netherlands. KLM was founded in October 1919 under the name of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with the aim of creating routes in the Netherlands and its colonies. The airline's headquarters are in Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam. KLM's first flight took off from Amsterdam to London, carrying two journalists and freight.

In September 2003, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the French airline Air France reached a close cooperation agreement. As a result of this agreement, the new company Air France-KLM was founded. Together the companies have routes to over 250 destinations worldwide and in 2006 they carried nearly 22 million passengers. Air France-KLM is the largest airline in the world in terms of income. Moreover, the number of passengers which use KLM and the distance travelled by this airline is the third largest in the world.

KLM is a member of SkyTeam alliance and offers code share flights with other airlines such as Air Europa, Aer Lingus and Alaska Airlines. KLM currently operates a fleet of 190 aircrafts which includes the largest number of different aircrafts in the world (17 Boeing 747-400 ER). KLM owns 80% of Transavia Airlines, 50% of Martinair and 26% of Kenya Airways.
