The beaches of the Ionian Islands

The Navagio Beach (Zakynthos)

The Navagio beach or Castaway is the most popular island of Zakynthos. It is located on the western side of the island near the village of Anafotiria.

This enchanted place is one of the most photographed landscapes of Greece and is considered as one of the best beaches. It was initially called Agios Georgios but owes its present name to the shipwreck of a boat carrying illegal cigarettes in 1983. The ship has been moved to the beach and over the years the sand has completely surrounded the ship that is now emerging from the sand.

Porto Katsiki beach (Lefkada)

The natural beauty of Porto Katsiki is one of the features that makes the Greek island of Lefkada famous. White and steep cliffs form a magnificent backdrop and contrast to the deep blue waters of the Ionian Sea. You will find lush vegetation surrounding the beach, creating one of the most idyllic landscapes of the world.

On the sandy beach there are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. The cliffs also offer shady corners to sunbathers and some privacy.

Voutomi Beach (Paxos)

Voutoumi is a pebble beach located on the northeastern side of Paxos island. Two high cliffs protect the two sides of the beach that attract many visitors to the nearby islands. The water here is shallow making it ideal for all ages.

You can also snorkel near the rocks. There are little accomodations available and there is a tavern on the hill overlooking the beach serving traditional meals. There are no shops on the island or other facilities which makes this beach very intimate and private.

Kapsali Beach (Kythira)

Near the picturesque village of Kapsali there are two small twin bays. The smallest has a small pebble beach and is more distant from the vollage while the other offers the possibility to go for a swim in the crystal clear water.

Kapsali is one of the most popular beaches on the island of Kythira and is close to restaurants and bars. Its safe and relaxing atmosphere is perfect for a visit with family and children. You will be fascinated by the mountains behind the beach.

Porto Limnionas Beach (Zakynthos)

The village of Agios Leon is located a few miles from the bay and is an unspoilt place. In the bay there is a large car park from which a path carved into the rock leads to the beach of Porto Limnionas.

The beach is rocky but there's a platform that allows people to lay down.

Myrtos Beach (Kefalonia)

Myrtos is definitely one of the main attractions of the island of Kefalonia. It is approximately 2 miles north of Argostoli by the hills.

This beach has an international reputation since it has been featured in several travel magazines and on several lists of the best Greek beaches.

It is famous for its natural beauty and clear waters.
