Volotea is a low-cost Spanish airline with headquarters in the Catalonian city of Barcelona. A relatively young airline, Volotea was founded in 2011 and began operations in 2012. With a fleet of 19 Airbus and Boeing aircrafts, Volotea already operates flights to 72 destinations within Spain and across Europe, with popular countries such as Israel, Albania, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece and Italy all available for passengers. Upon launching themselves into the aviation market in 2011, Volotea has ambitiously set out to provide non-stop flights, budget prices and sensible scheduling times so that passengers can enjoy their holidays without worrying about expensive and complicated flights. Volotea was founded by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros in 2015 whom now function as the CEO and managing director, respectively. Their 1st venture together was Vueling Airlines, which is at present, the 3rd largest budget airline in Europe when measured by passenger volume.
Online check-in
Passengers may check in for Volotea flights using the airline’s online check-in service. This service is open 7 days before the flight’s departure and closes 2 and half hours before take-off.
When checking in online, it is possible to select and purchase a preferred seat for the flight. Reserving a preferred seat is not mandatory and a random seat will be assigned to passengers who skip this step of the online check-in process.
Passengers can make changes to their check-in details up until the check-in service closes 2 and a half hours before the flight departs.
Passengers who do not check-in online will be charged an extra fee when checking in at the airport.
Cabin luggage allowance
All cabin luggage carried onto a Volotea flight must not exceed the maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm.
The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 10kg.
Each passenger is entitled to carry 1 item of cabin luggage on-board the flight. All additional items, such as handbags, overcoats and laptops, must be able to fit inside the cabin storage compartments without exceeding the weight limit.
Passengers carrying cabin luggage that is larger or heavier than the defined limitations will have their luggage placed in the hold and charged the maximum checked baggage fee.
Checked baggage allowance
Checked baggage on Volotea flights can be no larger than 158cm in total.
The standard weight limit for Volotea checked baggage is 20kg, though this can be increased to 32kg by paying an additional baggage fee.
Passengers are able to purchase 5 items of checked baggage allowance, with a total maximum weight of 50kg. The price of the checked baggage allowance varies according to the country of origin, destination and flight season.
