Flying with Norwegian Air Shuttle

Founded in 1993, Norwegian Air Shuttle is Europe’s 3rd largest low-cost airline, the 2nd largest airline in Scandinavia, and the 9th largest airline in the whole of Europe in terms of passenger numbers. Often referred to as simply “Norwegian”, Norwegian Air Shuttle operates 100 aircraft of which 92 are Boeing 737s and 8 are Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline currently flies to 126 international destinations and offers long-haul operations (commencing in 2013) to Bangkok and New York. Since 2012 the airline has seen a steady rise in the number of passengers it carries each year, with 24 million people choosing to fly with “Norwegian” in 2014. Norwegian Air Shuttle is a member of the European Low Fares Airline Association, which is a testament to their ambition to provide low cost airfare for passengers.

Online check-in

An online check-in service for passengers flying without checked luggage is available for all Norwegian Air Shuttle flights excluding those to the United Kingdom and to other Nordic countries from Europe.

Passengers can check in online up to 30 minutes before the flight’s departure with this service becoming available as soon as the flight has been booked.

When checking in online passengers will be required to provide passport details and the ticket reference information issued when the flight was booked.

When checking in online with Norwegian Air Shuttle you have the option to reserve your preferred seat . If you do not opt to reserve a seat, it will be allocated at the airport on the day of travel. Seat reservations can be booked up to 25 hours before the flight’s departure but may not be available to and from all destinations.

Passengers are able to check in for free at the airport for all Norwegian Air Shuttle flights.

Cabin luggage allowance

Passengers are entitled to carry 1 piece of cabin baggage with dimensions no larger than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.

The maximum weight of cabin luggage for Norwegian Air Shuttle flights is 10kg. When travelling to or from Dubai cabin baggage must not exceed 8kg in total weight.

Any item which exceeds the cabin luggage weight, quantity or size as stipulated by the airline and ticket type will either be treated as checked baggage and be subjected to a fee or may not be allowed onto the aircraft at all. Infants under the age of 2 without their own seat do not have a hand baggage allowance and are only permitted to take food on board for the journey.

Checked baggage allowance

All checked luggage on Norwegian Air Shuttle flights are subject to a size limit of 250cm x 79cm x 112cm.

Baggage weighing more than 32kg or less than 2kg are not permitted. Each passenger has a total baggage allowance of 64kg. This weight limit does not apply to electric wheelchairs, musical instruments or animals in the cargo hold.

Passengers are able to book a maximum of 2 pieces of luggage for their flight. Luggage can be added to the booking up to 25 hours before the flights departure. An extra allowance for checked baggage can also be purchased at the airport on the day of travel, though higher charges will apply. All baggage charges are non-refundable.

Infants (under 2 years) seated on a parent’s lap are permitted up to 5kg of checked baggage either in the parent's checked baggage or in a separate bag. Normal checked baggage conditions apply for all infants who have purchased their own seat.

Get in before others if you want to avoid having to put your carry on underneath the seat in front. I had no leg room left to stretch my legs. Airline allows other peopls to bring far bigger luggage into the cabin than advertised. Some people brought in two pieces of luggage. Many people entering the aircraft at the end had very uncomfortable flight. Get in first.
