Manchester Airport is well served by the public transport system:

  • Metrolink: The Metrolink tram has its main stop in the middle of the city, just outside Victoria train station, and the trip in to the airport costs just £4.40. The trams run very frequently during the day and it should take just less than an hour to reach the terminals.
  • Train: The quickest way to get to the airport by train is to catch a TransPennine Express or Northern Rail train from Manchester Piccadilly. These trains only take 20 minutes for the journey and cost around £3.70, with departures from 4am to just past midnight.
  • Bus: The Stagecoach bus company operates a 24-hour bus route, running between the centre of the city and the airport. The bus number to look for is the number 43 and it takes about an hour to reach the airport, depending on traffic. It costs £3.50 and leaves from outside Manchester Piccadilly train station.
  • Taxi: Taxis are available throughout the city, either by booking in advance or picking one up at one of the city’s taxi ranks. It is a 20-minute journey to the airport and an average fare in a saloon car is about £35.

Useful information about Costa del Sol Airport

This airport is the busiest in Andalucia and is only five miles outside Malaga. It has a train service as well as buses and taxis, so your journey into the centre of the city should be simple:

  • Train: The Cercanias commuter trains stop at the station and you can either catch one to Torremolinos and Fuengirola or to the centre of Malaga in the other direction. You can travel to either Malaga Maria Zambrano or Malaga Centro Alameda stations, which takes about 12 minutes and costs 1.80 euros.
  • Bus: There is an airport express bus, called Linea A Express, that takes you straight into the centre of Malaga, stopping at the Plaza del General Torrijos. It takes about 25 minutes and the ticket costs 3 euros, which you can pay to the driver.
  • Taxi: The taxi rank at the front of the airport has registered taxis that use a designated meter charge. Although charges will be more over a weekend and during festivals, an average cost for the 15-minute trip into the city is around 20 euros.

Malaga airport quite slow at naming gate numbers, possibly to keep people in the departure lounge thus spending more money on food\drink\duty free's ? Just an observation.
