Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and it is a colourful city with lots of culture, historical sites, beautiful buildings and great cuisine. Bangkok Airports

Bangkok has two international airports that serve the city, the "new" Bangkok International Airport, named Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), mainly used for domestic and low cost flights.

Suvarnabhumi Airport

Suvarnabhumi Bangkok Airport was opened in 2006 and is the main hub for Bangkok Airways. It is the main gateway to Bangkok and receives most of the international flights of the country. The airport is 16 miles outside of Bangkok city centre. The cheapest and easiest way to get to the centre is by the Suvarnabhumi Airport Link (ARL). There are two train services to get from the airport to Bangkok: the non-stop Express Line every 30 minutes to Makkasan Station and the Commuter City Line every 15 minutes which makes 8 stops in the capital ending at Phaya Thai Station. The trains run from 6am until 12am midnight and cost 150 Baht (about £3.40) for a one-way ticket.

Don Mueang International Airport

Don Mueang Airport was once Bangkok's only airport and was originally shut down after the construction of Bangkok's new airport, Suvarnabhumi. In 2007, Don Mueang Airport was re-opened for both public and military use. It is the main hub for low cost airlines like Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, and Orient Thai Airlines. The airport has 3 terminals: Terminal 1 is used for international flights, Terminal 2 is currently closed, and Terminal 3 is used for domestic flights. To go from the airport to Bangkok city centre the easiest and most economical forms of transportation are by train or bus. There is a train station linked to the airport by a pedestrian bridge, trains run from 6am to 8pm about every hour to Hua Lamphong (Central Railway Station). To get to Bangkok city centre by bus take the #29 to the Siam area (downtown Bangkok). The bus price is 20 Baht (about £0.45).
