Flying with Brussels Airlines

Brussels Airlines was founded in 2006 with the slogan "We Go The Extra Smile" and is Belgium's largest airline as well as the country's national flag carrier. Brussels Airlines is an airline growing in popularity, and recorded a 2% growth towards 5.88 million passengers in 2013, and carried over 6 million passengers in 2014, which represents a further increase of 13% on the previous year. Operating to 90 international destinations throughout Africa, Europe and the USA, the airline boasts a modern fleet of 46 airliners. Long haul flights to Africa and the USA are operated by Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft, while European routes are mainly operated by Airbus A319/A320 aircraft. Brussels Airlines is a member of the world famous Lufthansa Group and a member of the prestigious Star Alliance, Air Transport Association and the Association of European Airlines.

Online check-in

Online check-in for all Brussels Airlines routes opens 24 hours before the scheduled departure and closes 1 hour before take-off. Online check-in is available on all Brussels Airlines operated flights except on those departing from Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi, Catania, Dubrovnik, Figari, Ibiza, Lourdes and Olbia.
Passengers returning within 24 hours of their initial flight and with a confirmed booking reference can check in for their return flight at the same time.
Brussels Airlines online check-in service allows passengers to select their preferred seat on board the flight during the check-in process.
Self-service check-in kiosks are available at Brussels Airport for all European flights operated by Brussels Airlines, while airport check-in desks are available at all destinations served by the airline.

Cabin luggage allowance

Each item of cabin luggage carried onto a Brussels Airlines flight must not be larger than 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.
The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 6kg, though this can be increased to 12kg or 16kg for a fee.
Passengers are entitled to 1 item of cabin luggage. This can be increased to 2 pieces during the booking process.
Infants aged less than 2 years are not entitled to any cabin luggage, though small bags containing baby food, fully collapsible strollers and/or carrycots can be carried on board as cabin luggage provided they meet the weight and size restrictions of the airline.

Checked baggage allowance

The maximum permitted size of checked baggage for all flights operated by Brussels Airlines must not exceed 158cm. This includes wheels, handles and external pockets.
The standard maximum checked baggage weight for all Brussels Airlines flights is 23kg though this can be increased to 32kg for a fee.
Passengers flying to destinations outside of Europe are entitled to 1 free item of checked baggage. Passengers can purchase a maximum of 5 items of checked baggage for their flight. Additional weight allowances can also be purchased in advance of the flight’s departure. Any additional baggage bags or items that exceed the weight restrictions will be subject to an excess charge. Any single item that weighs more than 32kg will not be permitted on board the aircraft.
Infants under 2 years of age are entitled to 1 piece of checked baggage 23kg. On top of the free baggage allowance, 1 infant's carry basket or 1 fully collapsible stroller can be checked for free.

Brussels Airlines' connection times are a problem. My scheduled connection time from NTE-BRU-VIE was 45 mins reduced to 25 due to delays. I had to run and my luggage did NOT make it. This is not the first time this happens a few months ago I had a 50 min scheduled connecting time in BRU. I can't understand why they operate this way. short flight delays are normal- Brussels' ultra-short connection times make the trip VERY stressful increase the risk of delayed baggage increase stress in airport staff and it is NOT the service that's expected from the high prices they charge. It was unfortunate that they had the only flight available for me on the day but from now on I'll avoid them like the plague and tell everyone I know about their tactics and their lack of response after my complaint. Thankfully there are lots of social media to use! So someone will listen.

The flight was cancelled due to the company bankrupt and I did not even get a message to wrn me. I discovered when I went to the airport and there was no flight. I received 150 euros and spent 700 euros to travel urgently to Brussels as I had to work as a doctor and had surgeries schedule
