What to see in Paignton

For a traditional seaside holiday, head to Broadsands: it’s safe for kids as lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. Relax in a deckchair or try one of the many water sports that are on offer: choose between water skiing, yachting, kayaking and more, or enjoy a pleasure boat trip. The Paignton Zoo Environmental Park makes for a good day out, and a ride on the steam train will give you a scenic tour of the coastline between Paignton and Dartmouth.

Follow the grassy headland from Paignton and you’ll find Elberry Cove. This pebbled beach is more secluded than Broadsands and is flanked by dense woodland. For more beach action, there’s Goodrington Sands, and the town of Paignton itself is home to a village green, a crazy golf course and a full nine-hole course. Just along the coast is the picturesque village of Brixham with its working harbour and pretty bays. Nearby Torquay boasts ten beaches and is home to plenty of family-friendly activities including the underground system of Kents Cavern and the beautiful Torre Abbey.

Where to stay in Paignton

Book your Paignton hotel in the town centre for easy access to the beach and all the town has to offer. From here, you can easily reach the pier and will be perfectly placed for discovering the UNESCO Global Geopark with its Stone Age caves and secluded beaches. Enjoy donkey rides on the beach as well as fishing and boat excursions, and you’ll also be close to a golf course and an array of pubs and restaurants. You can also stay on the edge of town to be close to the South Devon Highway: from here, it’s just an hour’s drive to Dartmoor National Park, with its wild landscapes and ancient forest.

If you want to enjoy the Quaywest Waterpark, book your hotel close to Goodrington Sands. This is also the perfect location for enjoying the steam train or simply exploring the craggy rock pools that form on the beach. But if you want to be closer to nature, stay in between the town centre and Goodrington Sands. From here, it’s easy to access the South West Coast Path, with the sweeping views it has to offer. For coastal walks and ferry rides to Brixham and Torquay, opt for a hotel close to the harbour. Not far from here, you'll find the pretty beach, Fairy Cove.
