Flying with China Eastern Airlines

China Eastern Airlines is one of Asia's most popular airlines and currently operates international, domestic and regional routes. Founded in 1988 and based in Shanghai, Eastern Airlines is China's 2nd largest carrier by number of passengers and offers services to over 200 destinations across North America, Asia, Europe, Australia and South Africa. In 2011 China Eastern started services to Honolulu from Shanghai, which marked the first ever direct service between mainland China and Hawaii. At present, China Eastern Airlines has a fleet of over 400 aircraft, predominately made up of Boeing 737 models and Airbus 319-330s. Operating under the slogan “Traveling The Globe, Making Dreams Come True”, China Eastern Airlines carried a total of 83 million domestic and international passengers in 2014, with an average load factor of 73%. In 2011, Chine Eastern Airlines became the 14th member of SkyTeam.

Online check-in

China Eastern Airlines online check-in service is available for a majority of domestic and international flights operated by the airline. Check in is available 24 hours before the flight departure and closes 45 minutes before take-off.
The online check-in service is available for all adult passengers holding valid passports and electronic tickets with confirmed reservations on flights operated by China Eastern Airlines. Infants and disabled travellers with special boarding requirements cannot check-in online.
Passengers checking in online with China Eastern Airlines are also able to choose their seat on the flight during or after the check-in process.
Passengers are also able to check-in at the airport from 150 minutes to 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Passengers checking in at the airport will not be charged any additional fees.

Cabin luggage allowance

Each adult passenger flying with China Eastern Airlines is entitled to bring 1 piece of cabin luggage on board provided it is not greater than 56cm x 36cm x 23cm in size.
The maximum weight of 1 item of cabin luggage for all China Eastern Airlines flights is 5kg. This can be increased to 10kg for a fee.
Parents flying with infants aged less than 2 years are entitled to bring one collapsible stroller per infant in addition to their own cabin luggage.
A charge will be incurred on luggage that exceeds the weight and size limits as defined by China Eastern Airlines and will be placed in the aircraft’s hold. The excess baggage charge is determined by the number of pieces, size, and weight of your baggage.

Checked baggage allowance

Passengers of international routes operated by China Eastern Airlines are able to check in 2 pieces of luggage. Checked baggage must be no larger than 100cm x 60cm x 40cm for all destinations outside China and the Americas. For these destinations the size limit is 158cm.
The maximum weight of each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 20kg for adults and 10kg for infants on all flights outside the Americas and China. This amount may be increased to 40kg for a fee. For flights within the Americas and China the weight limit is 23kg for adults and infants aged less than 2 years. This can be raised to 32kg.
Although there are no set regulations for the number of bags that can be checked in on flight routes outside of the Americas and China, 2 or less is the airline’s preferred amount. For flights within the Americas and China the maximum number of checked bags is 2 for adults and 1 for infants aged less than 2 years.
Sporting equipment may also be checked in provided that it meets the size and weight specifications of the airline.

The segment to sydney was listed as direct from Beijing when I booked when in reality it stopped in another chinese city on the way. China eastern also disnt have a real kosher meal and served only fruit. They dis try to accomidate to their best ability.

Terrible. I will never fly with China Eastern again. It took 1 hour and 30 minutes just to check in bags resulting in my friend and I sitting at opposite ends of the plane (flight from Jeju to Shanghai). On the way back we were once again sat at opposite ends of the plane. The flight was delayed over 1 hour but no update or information was given to inform passengers what was happening. On a separate note it says ?Jeju New Orleans?. This is confusing New Orleans is in the USA. Jeju is in South Korea. Please update this on your website to avoid confusion.
